About ShockBrawl Arcade

ShockBrawl Arcade is an independent studio for small, original browser games. It is built around one idea: a game should start the moment you want to play it. No installer, no launcher, no account, no three-minute loading bar. You open the page and you are playing.

The games we love most are the arcade kind: the ones you could finish in a lunch break. They are quick to learn, hard to master, and honest: when you lose, you know exactly why, and you want one more go. Many games today ask for gigabytes of downloads and hours of your time before they get to the fun part.

Our mission is to make games that go the other way. Every game here is a single small file, written from scratch, that loads almost instantly on a laptop or a phone and gets you into the action within seconds.

What we build

The site stands on three things:

The Games

Five original arcade games, each designed and coded for this site: Neon Drift, a four-lane traffic dodger built on near misses; Sector Seven, an autofire shoot-'em-up with a mini-boss every fifth wave; Dust Rally, a one-input rally run down a narrowing canyon; Shock Breaker, a six-level brick breaker with an uncapped combo multiplier; and Volt Serpent, a snake game with teleporting surge gates. None of them uses a game engine or borrowed code: each is plain JavaScript drawing to a canvas, and the largest is under 40 KB.

The Guides

Every game has a full guide covering controls, scoring, how the difficulty ramps, what each enemy and power-up does, and the tricks good players use. We take the numbers straight from each game's own code rather than guessing, so the guide and the game always agree. When a game changes, its guide changes with it.

The Blog

Our blog is where we explain the thinking behind the games: why the hitboxes are smaller than the sprites, how the endless games make sure you are never trapped, and where the points in each game really come from. It is also our changelog, so bug fixes and new features are written up there.

What we care about

How the site is funded

The games are free. The site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense, which appears on the information pages such as this one and on the game guides. We never place ads on the game screens themselves. You can read how advertising uses cookies in our Privacy Policy.

What's next

The arcade will keep growing, with new games, new levels for the existing ones, and fixes based on what players tell us. Found a bug, have an idea, or set a score you're proud of? Write to us at hello@shockbrawl.online or see the Contact page.
