About the arcade
ShockBrawl Arcade is a small collection of original arcade games that run directly in your browser. There are five of them: Neon Drift, a four-lane traffic dodger; Sector Seven, an autofire shoot-'em-up with mini-bosses; Dust Rally, a one-input canyon run; Shock Breaker, a six-level brick breaker with combos; and Volt Serpent, a snake game with teleporting gates.
Each game is a single small file — under 40 KB, including the code, the graphics and in one case the sound — so it starts instantly, even on a slow connection. Nothing to install, no account, no plugin.
Every game comes with a guide
The page for each game explains how it actually works: how points are scored, how the difficulty ramps, what every enemy and power-up does, and the tricks good players use. The numbers come straight from the game code, so the guide and the game always agree. The blog goes deeper, with design notes on why the games play the way they do.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the games free?
- Yes. Every game is free to play. The site is supported by advertising, which is shown on the information pages and never over a game while you play.
- Do they work on phones and tablets?
- Yes. Every game has touch controls — tap, hold, drag or swipe, depending on the game. The guide for each game lists them.
- Is my progress saved?
- Your best score for each game is kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing is sent to us, and clearing your browser data resets it.
- Who makes the games?
- We do. All five are original games built for this site. You can read more on the About page.
